My child was getting confused with verbs and adverbs. I thought of a simple way to distinguish the two. In any sentence, you ask the question "What is the noun doing?". The answer to this question is the "verb". For example in a sentence that reads, "The girl is dancing gracefully", the question to be asked is "What is the girl doing?". The answer is "dancing" - that is the verb. After that one should ask the questions "How" or "Where" or "When" is the girl dancing? The answer is "gracefully" - that is the adverb. The adverb describes the verb.
